5+ Stars!

I stepped into this story expecting history, almost fearful of what was in the pages … and found myself standing inside something far more personal … something amazing … unforgettable.

War fills these pages … the kind that fractures time, separates hearts, strips away every illusion of control, and brings the soul face to face with what it truly believes. And yet, woven through all of this, there is a steady thread … a quiet, unshaken confidence that God is present. He is.

Gloria and John carry longing, memory, restraint, and a love that is shaped away from each other as much as when they are near. Their story unfolds in fragments … brief reunions, long silences, and moments that feel almost borrowed from time itself. Every meeting holds weight. Every separation asks something deeper … so much deeper.

And through it all … faith is not spoken as an idea. It is lived. Leaned on. Reached for when strength runs thin.

The hymns … the prayers … the quiet breaking and turning of the heart toward God in the middle of pain … these moments hold it together.

“Knowing that the power of God is at work in me—me—as I depend on Him enables me to carry on.”

Truth remains. Truth is fresh. Truth is powerful.

Even the smallest details carry meaning: a whistle … a painted bird … the call to listen for what remains when everything else feels lost, forsaken, almost hopeless.

This story allows love to be formed through distance, tested through uncertainty, anchored in what God holds beyond time.

Somewhere along the way, it stops feeling like a wartime romance and begins to feel like something lived … truly lived … something remembered … something that settles deep and stays.

Within these beautifully written pages, I found myself listening even more closely … resting in the quiet assurance that I am held, and have been held, by Almighty God through every second already lived and every second still to come.

This is a 5+ star read for me. It is the first book I have read by this author, and I have already added her other books to my “to be read” list. I am already looking forward to reading much more from Terri Wangard and this publisher.
