A Refuge in Montana has Buddy, Dunk, a little boy with a big heart, and a rescue farm full of second chances.

Buddy the horse and Dunk the donkey brought sweetness and personality to the page, and I loved the way little Taylor wanted to be part of caring for them. Those scenes gave the book its tenderest moments for me. There is something very special about wounded animals learning to trust again while the people around them are quietly needing the same kind of care.

Vicky is trying hard to keep life steady for her son after losing her husband. Then Nick returns with the animals in tow, and suddenly the grief she has been carrying is standing right in front of her again. She has blamed him for her husband’s death, and that kind of hurt does not disappear just because someone walks back into town.

I appreciated that forgiveness is treated as something brave. Not easy. Not tidy. Courageous. Vicky and Nick both have painful things to face before healing can begin, and the rescue-farm setting made that theme feel natural.

This is a sweet, gentle Love Inspired romance with a soft place for rescue animals and wounded hearts. Buddy and Dunk may come to the farm needing help, but they are not the only ones God uses this refuge to reach.

I received a digital ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and was not compensated in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own and reflect my honest evaluation of the writing and content.
