I especially enjoy historical fiction that reminds me God has always been at work, faithfully accomplishing His purposes through every generation. Spark of the Revolution is one of those stories.
Megan Soja transported me to the days leading up to the American Revolution with rich historical detail that made colonial Boston come alive. I became invested in the lives of the characters as they faced uncertainty, divided loyalties, and decisions that would shape both their futures and the course of history. I appreciated seeing how each character wrestled with the difficult circumstances before them, and I found myself considering how I might respond if placed in similar circumstances.
As history unfolded through these characters, I began thinking about how easily I can become consumed with what is happening around me. God calls us to live faithfully where He has placed us, obey His Word, serve others, seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him. We do all of this with an eternal perspective, always remembering that our true citizenship is in heaven and our lasting home is with Christ.
History is ultimately God’s story. Nations rise and fall according to His sovereign plan, and those who belong to Christ already have an eternal home that can never be shaken.
The Christian faith woven throughout the novel gave purpose to the characters’ journeys and pointed my heart toward trusting God’s sovereign hand through every season of uncertainty.
Filled with engaging history, memorable characters, meaningful faith, and timeless reminders of God’s faithfulness, Spark of the Revolution was a rewarding read. I highly recommend it to readers who enjoy Christian historical fiction and Revolutionary War stories.
