5 Stars!
Justice Mission reminded me why Lynette Eason is one of the authors I trust when I want suspense that moves quickly but still carries emotional weight. She knows how to drop readers into danger without making the story feel rushed or hollow, and this one had my attention.
Sophie Walters spots a suspicious stranger at a K-9 graduation, and what follows is frightening, personal, and full of pressure. Her kidnapping and escape immediately made me care about her safety, but the missing boss and the need to uncover the truth gave the story a deeper pull than simple pursuit. There was a real mission underneath it.
Sara Sheckells did a wonderful job with the narration. Her voice carried the tension clearly without making the story feel overperformed. That balance matters so much to me in suspense audio. I want to feel the fear, but I do not want the narration to shout the danger at me. Sheckells gave the story urgency while still allowing Sophie’s vulnerability and NYPD officer Luke Hathaway’s protectiveness to feel human. I could hear the pressure in the scenes, but I could also settle into the story and keep listening.
The K-9 element gave this audiobook a strong sense of purpose. Luke and his K-9 partner helped give the story movement and a protective heartbeat. I especially appreciated the tension in Luke’s need to guard Sophie while keeping enough emotional distance to pursue justice the right way. That inner conflict gave the title more meaning.
This was a five-star listen because it gave me suspense with a pulse and hope with roots. I kept pressing play because I cared what happened to Sophie, and because Lynette Eason never let the danger outrun the heart of the story.
I received a digital ARC of this audiobook book from the publisher via NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and was not compensated in any way.
