Samantha Williams can face flames with courage, but trusting God with the ashes of her past is the harder battle.
Sam knows how to protect. She knows how to survive. She knows how to keep moving when fear has already ripped too much from her. Life in Renegade gives her people to love, a place to belong, and two girls who need her steady, even when her own heart still feels lost, scarred, and scared.
Liam Roberts brings the kind of protection that costs him something. He is a Deputy US Marshal, a guardian, a man carrying responsibility in both hands, and I loved the way his faith showed up when danger pressed in. His prayers did not feel polished. They felt desperate, honest, and anchored in Jesus.
Jennifer Pierce filled this story with arson danger, witness protection tension, hidden threats, found family tenderness, and a past that refused to stay quiet. The suspense kept the pages burning, but Sam’s spiritual struggle is what made this story matter so much to me.
The Gospel thread was beautiful. Liam knew he stood before God only because of “the blood of Jesus.” Barbara placing a worn Bible in Sam’s hands and pointing her to “the gospel of Mark” felt like one of those quiet holy moments fiction can carry so well. Sam’s questions about God’s goodness felt painfully honest, and I loved that the story did not rush her toward easy answers.
Protector reminded me that the deepest rescue is the mercy of Jesus reaching into the places fear has scorched and teaching a wounded, surrendering heart that God is near and always will be.
