5 Stars!
Philippa loves Jesus. She knows His grace and mercy, and she wants to obey Him. I appreciated that her faith mattered in the choices she made. And Bertie . . . he is so gentle and deliberate with her. I could feel Philippa’s astonishment when he looked at her with such care, knowing her history.
The mystery had me wanting answers. Rhynwick is accused of murder, and Bertie is trying to save his friend from the gallows. Philippa shows real courage as she helps him pursue the truth. The Old Bailey courtroom scene made the danger feel real, and justice seemed so far away. I dreaded what could happen to Rhynwick if Bertie couldn’t clear his name.
I loved watching Philippa slowly take in how deeply Bertie cared for her. He never hurried her, and I was glad their love had time to grow.
Philippa’s wonder at being loved sent my thoughts to the Risen King. We have nothing to boast in before Him. Even our best works are filthy rags. Our hope is the redeeming blood of God’s only begotten Son. Reading Philippa’s gratitude for Jesus’ mercy made me immensely thankful for His mercy in my own life.
Philippa and Bertie’s tender story touched my heart, and I finished it thanking Jesus again and again for His grace, mercy, and love.
Oh, Philippa . . . I’m so thankful you saw what I saw: Bertie knew your past, and he loved you with such tenderness.
I received an advance reader copy of An Accusing at the Old Bailey by Erica Vetsch from Kregel Publications. I was not required to write a positive review. These are my honest opinions.
