5 Stars!
Kerry Johnson’s writing keeps getting better and better. She captures the details and emotions of each moment so well that I felt right there with Clay and Autumn. I wanted answers about the fires, and I cared about the people and what had happened between them.
Clay tells Autumn about hitting rock bottom. Bitterness and anger were eating him alive, and alcohol no longer numbed the hurt. Then he says, “He saved me.” I love how plainly he names Jesus as the One who rescued him. His thoughts show that change, too: “Now he noticed God's Providence in the big and small things each day.” That detail meant something to me. Giving his heart to Jesus has changed the way he sees his life.
Autumn notices: “Clay had always been a caring guy, but a lost one. Now, he was found. Found by Jesus and steadfast in faith. She'd prayed for a devoted man ever since Grayson was born and had never expected God would bring Clay back to her.” I loved that her prayer for a devoted man mattered to their love story.
Forgiveness is difficult when someone has hurt you. I appreciated seeing Autumn’s struggle alongside her recognition of how Clay has changed. There is redemption here, and mercy and grace that come from Jesus. He is clearly named as Lord and Savior. That explicit faith was such an important part of why I loved this book.
I loved Cold Case Arson Investigation. I’m certainly already looking forward to Kerry’s next story.
